Telehealth

We offer telehealth, also known as virtual, appointments for safe, easy, convenient and confidential care.

Telehealth appointments allow you to access and manage your healthcare away from your healthcare provider’s office through the use of digital information and communication technologies such as computers, tablets and smartphones. These may be technologies you use from home or that your provider uses to improve or support healthcare services.

[0:00] Dr. Sonya Reedy: I’m Dr. Sonya Reedy. Here at El Rio we are committed to high-quality comprehensive healthcare, whether you are in clinic or on telehealth. You can schedule a telehealth visit to see your provider. You may decide to use a telehealth visit if you want to decrease your exposure while traveling too and from clinic, or even for the convenience of not having to leave your home when you need care. It is great for monitoring chronic conditions when combined with in-clinic visits.

[0:25] Dr. Sonya Reedy: Before your telehealth appointment, you will receive a link to sign into your video telehealth appointment, either by email or text. Set a reminder for your appointment. Please be ready to log on to your appointment fifteen minutes prior to your appointment time.

[0:41] Dr. Sonya Reedy: In order to ensure the best outcome, here are some tips so you can see and hear your medical provider during your visit.

  • Find a private space with good lighting.
  • Make sure your space is as quiet as possible. For example, turn off your TV and limit distractions.
  • Be in an area of your home with good wifi or phone signal.
  • Make sure you are in a private space, where you can discuss your health without others around.
  • Please do not drive or shop while on your appointment.

[1:14] Dr. Sonya Reedy: We try our best to stay on time, but please allow forty-five to sixty minutes after your appointment starts before planning any other activities. Our goal is to make your telehealth appointment as similar to an office visit as we can. Our clinical staff may ask to join the visit first to help make sure you are ready for your appointment. Be prepared to answer questions about your reason for visit, your medical history, or your medications. Our medical assistants may ask you to take your blood pressure or wait. Take your blood pressure if you can do so. You can show the reading to the medical team. If you have diabetes, please have your glucometer assessment.

[1:58] Dr. Sonya Reedy: Here are some ways you can help your medical provider during the visit.

  • [Visual]: Have your medications available. [Dr. Sonya Reedy]: Please be ready to take our your medications and show them to your provider.
  • [Visual]: Be sure to wear appropriate clothing. [Dr. Sonya Reedy]: Be sure to wear clothes so that you can show the area of concern, for example wear a short-sleeve shirt if you have a rash on your arm.
  • [Visual]: If you can, have a flashlight or another light source available. [Dr. Sonya Reedy]: If you can, have a flashlight or a light source available if your provider needs to check your mouth.
  • [Visual]: Write down any questions you have. [Dr. Sonya Reedy]: Please write down any questions you have so your concerns are addressed during the visit.

[2:25] Dr. Sonya Reedy: If you encounter technical issues during your visit, you can request chat help on the telehealth application and be quickly connected to technical support. Your physician may not know if your connection cuts out, so feel free to ask for information to be repeated. If you are unclear about any instructions or follow-up, please ask for clarification. Last few tips:

  • Don’t forget to cancel if you’re unable to make your appointment.
  • Your telehealth appointment is like any other clinic visit; you may have a copay.
  • In-clinic or face-to-face appointments may be needed if your doctor has concerns prior to, or during your telehealth visits.
  • In-clinic appointments are recommended to give vaccinations, obtain lab samples, wellness visits, and for specific exams such as evaluating patients with diabetes for foot or eye problems.

[3:20] Dr. Sonya Reedy: At El Rio, we are thankful you are our patient. Your health is our passion.
