Our pediatricians care for children of all ages. Care includes sick and well child visits, physical exams, and sports physicals as well as disease management for children suffering from chronic illnesses, such as asthma and diabetes. Many of our pediatric providers see patients until their 21st birthday.
Immunization
Prevention is the most important part of a healthy life. We offer free immunizations to registered El Rio patients at our health centers, no appointment needed. We offer immunizations for a fee to non-El Rio patients.
Asthma Intervention
The El Rio Asthma Program is a free program for registered El Rio pediatric and adult patients. Offering asthma education for parents and children, allergy testing, breathing tests and free spacers, the program has contributed to an 80% reduction in emergency room visits to two Tucson hospitals.
The program addresses a community health issue through individualized care and attention. It comprehensively assesses the full range of environmental triggers for each child and designs customized treatments and interventions, while educating children and their parents in their effective use. With bilingual/bicultural classes and individual counseling, the program also empowers families to take some aspects of care into their own hands, ensuring children stay healthy and can access care as soon as they need it.
Reach out and Read
Reach Out and Read integrates healthcare and literacy, encouraging young children and their families to read during and after visits to El Rio. At well-child visits, we give “prescriptions” for free, new books and fill our waiting rooms with reading material to foster learning and discovery through reading.
