El Rio Health offers four first-year resident positions each year.

  • Applicants must meet one of the ACGME requirements listed below:
    • Must be a graduate from an Osteopathic medical school in the United States accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA)
    • Must be a graduate from a medical school in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
    • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada (foreign medical graduate FMG) must possess a current, valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), or have a full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction in which they are training.
    • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States, who have completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school.
  • We are not able to consider applicants requiring a J1 Visa.
  • The academic year begins July 1st.
  • You must apply though the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
  • Required submissions:

    • Personal statement
    • Three letters of recommendation
    • MSPE
    • Medical school transcripts
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • COMLEX I & COMLEX II or UMLE 1 & USMLE 2
    • Photograph
  • Appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and you must register through the NRMP website, in addition to applying through ERAS.
  • Applicants considered for an appointment will be chosen for a virtual interview with the Program Director and selected faculty. Interviews are conducted October through December each year. There will be opportunities for applicants to visit to tour our training sites at El Rio and Tucson Medical Center as well as learn more about Tucson.
  • If your COMLEX or USMLE scores, as listed above, are not available at the time of ranking, you will not be eligible to be ranked.
